If you're a complete beginner (as in can't even run a mile now), start by doing the "Couch Potato to 5k" training plan. I have yet to find a person who did not find the plan useful. It helps you start slowly, and in 2 months build up to a 5k (3 miles).
The first run of the group will be on the 2 mile mark, to accommodate the real beginners. If you can't run the whole thing, a run/walk system works at first too. If the couch potato to 5k is too much of a beginner plan for you, but you're still far from doing a 5k, start at the week you fall on, and go from there. Want to find someone to join you for this training plan? Post it here! Edited by Carla on Oct 25, 2008 11:09 AM |

Neha, don't know of any. You can find Turkey Trots in November around Thanksgiving if that works for you (I believe both DC and Arlington has them). There's the Jingle All the Way in December, but that's a 10k, but there's also the Fairfax Four Miler on New Year's Eve (here: http://www.fairfaxfou...
I'll keep an eye out for a 5k -- it seems that December and January is pretty dull race-wise around these parts... |
