Howdy Peeps -

So, I am pretty sure I want to run my very first marathon. Make that, I am definite I want to run it. I have tons of questions, but these 2 are at the top of my list.

1) Is the Hal Higdon 18 week training schedule really enough time?
2) Would it help or hinder to begin training 1 month earlier - as in extended long runs on the weekend?

ANY tips, lessons learned, advice would be helpful. Thanks!! nina

Higdon could work well for you, but I don't think any training plan can work for everyone. I like to look at several and make my own based on all the things I like from each plan. My tips would be:
1. Start trying to build up a decent base of about 30 mpw before starting your training program.
2. Run slow, be consistent.
3. Cross and strength train regularly.
4. Listen to your body!
