We ran the VA Beach Rock n Roll Half Marathon last year and had a blast! Some people shared rooms, others went camping (some of us are cheap), and it was a great time!
This is a perfect Labor Day weekend vacation!
The VA Beach Rock 'n' Roll Half is supposed to be one of the best half marathons around -- flat, fast, 20 bands on 14 stages and 17 cheerleading squads along the course. You won't even realize you're running 13 miles once you get busy looking for the next entertainment (or at least that's what I tell myself, anyway...).
After the race we can enjoy a day at the beach, and check out the headliner concert (this year it'll be REO Speedwagon and Pat Benatar -- not really my thing, but hey, it's a free entry with our bib, so might as well go check it out).
You also get a technical tee, a cool medal at the finish line and a certificate of completion is mailed to you after the race!
Are you afraid of not being able to run the whole thing? You have to finish it the race 4 hours, so walkers are also welcomed. Said that, we will be training together with the group, so we'll be more than ready when the time comes!
Register here: http://www.rnrvb.com/... -- the price is $85 until May 31st (and it goes up then...)
There are special hotel rates for those running the race, the information is on the website.
Last year we did the cheapo thing and went camping at First Landing state park nearby (about 5 miles from the main VA Beach strip), you can click here for more info on camping. For $24/night, you can't beat it!
This year I decided to rough it a little bit less, and I'm staying at a cheap motel by the boardwalk instead (we were quoted $99/night, so it's definitely not the Plaza). More info here: http://www.seashellmo...
RSVP here when you register. Hope you guys can make it!
Hi does anyone want to split a room for Friday-Sat-Sun-and leave on Monday at the seashellmotel.com. I'm flexible with the dates. Its at $165-160/per night.
Kathy, the link you provided is not for VA Beach... This is the one in VA Beach: http://www.seashellmotel.net/
(it's .net, not .com)
Kathy! Myself and a friend would be interested in splitting a hotel for Sat/Sun night, leave Monday morning. How many people were you hoping to have in a room?
That would be totally awesome! Thanks kristy I'm perfectly okay with that.
Donnie, looks like Rob signed up for it, you could check with him if he wants to share a room. (Look under our members section, he's Rob M -- he hasn't RSVP yet, but on the run today he mentioned how he hasn't booked a room yet)
Kathy--I'm out of town right now, but will swing the idea by my friend when I get back. So--we would be splitting the cost between three people then?
Kristy-I got the reservation up for 9/4 and 9/5 nights under my name at the Sea Shell Motel.
*we are all up for sharing up to 4 people and have 1 spot left.
Hey guys, what do you think, dinner on Saturday night pre-race, or lunch post race on Sunday? (For dinner maybe a pasta place, for lunch, there's an all-you-can-eat sushi place a few miles down -- you need a car to get there, but it's only $14/person)
Man I'm totally in for whatever. After this week I'm totally relaxing with the hot yoga, buffet, hot yoga, race, buffet. I'm counting down the days already!
I'm in for whatever as well, and have 2 friends that will likely join- at least for a pasta dinner or to hang out after the race... Also I may have space if anyone wants a ride down- it would be late Friday night and back on Monday...
Anyone who wants to join us for dinner, meet us at 23rd St and Atlantic Av at 6pm tonight and we'll find a place nearby to eat.
