Virginia Beach Convention Center (map)
This marathon and half would require a little travel, but those of you who did the Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon with us in Virginia Beach can attest to the fact that it was a good time and we were able to do it pretty cheaply sharing hotel rooms and campsites.
The weekend of March 20 is the Yuengling sponsored "Shamrock Sports Festival" on the oceanfront in Virginia Beach, VA. Sunday's the big race day, with the Half and Full Marathons, but if you're not up to a half, there's an 8K (5 miles) on Saturday.
Marathon/Marathon Walk: (26.2 miles)
Enjoy the course as you pass by the beautiful resort area of Virginia Beach and then continue through Fort Story where you will pass Cape Henry Light House, the oldest in the country. Times will be recorded for 6.5 hours (16:02 min. per mile pace). You must be at least 16 years old on March 21, 2010 in order to participate. This is a 2011 Boston Qualifier(<--umm, pretty sure that none of us need to know that except Emily, Rob, and you other fast people that I don't even know who you are 'cause you're always so far ahead of me!)
Half Marathon/Half Marathon Walk: (13.1 miles)
The half marathon will start one hour prior to the marathon and will complete a fast, flat loop course starting at the Cavalier on 42nd street and end on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk at 31st street. Participants must be at least 12 years old on March 21, 2010 in order to participate. The half marathon course is open for 4 hours, which is a 18:19 per mile pace. Race limit is 7,500.
8K: (4.97 miles)
The course is out and back through the beautiful Virginia Beach Oceanfront and along the paved boardwalk. Have fun either walking or running this race with over 6,000 other competitors and be ready to finish in front of thousands of screaming fans on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. New for 2010, the 8k will be corralled.

Looking forward to it!
Dolphin and Whale Challenge
Go the distance this year by completing either the Dolphin or Whale Challenge! Each finisher of the Dolphin Challenge (8k and Half Marathon) and Whale Challenge (8k and Marathon) will be mailed a commemorative Dolphin or Whale pin to recognize your accomplishment.
So what is everyone's plan for this event? Is anyone interested in meeting up for dinner the night before? Also - is there anyone running the full at about a 9:30 - 10:00 pace?
David, we'll definitely send some plans out -- I'm getting there on Friday night, we'll post something up once it gets closer. Who else is getting there on Friday night?
So where is everyone staying, and what day/time you'll be getting into town. Seems like quite a few of us will be at the Days Inn.
Is anyone getting there early enough for sushi buffet for lunch on Saturday? Let's say at 1 or 2pm?
Weather for VA Beach on Sunday: Slight chance of a thunderstorm. Highs in the upper 60s and lows in the low 50s.
Carla, I was thinking Sushi buffect AFTER the race. Anyone sticking around Sunday afternoon?
Jeff, I want to do seafood AFTER the race. I can't imagine going to a seafood buffet and having any energy left to run the next day, but sushi fills me up, but not in the same "I cannot move" manner.
Let me know if you're not going for it, then we won't wait for you guys (I told Erin yesterday that we'd be waiting).
Hey all. Its been a while since ive been able to run with the group, but ill be in va beach for shamrock. I'm going with some others, but it would be fun to meet up at the after party on the beach. Everybody is going to the after party riiiiiiight??
Gavin and I are en route now and staying at the days inn. What's the plan for dinner, and how do we catch up with y'all? :-)
I bet Jeff will be signing up for the Whale and Dolphin challenge.
