From their website (http://www.runwashing...):
This Veterans Day Sunday, November 15, 2009, join Capital Running Company in honoring our country's veterans in the tenth annual Veterans Day 10K! The race starts at 8:00 a.m. and will take place in West Potomac Park near the Tidal Basin and FDR Memorial in Washington, DC.
A fun walk of approximately 2.25 miles is available for those who want to participate but do not want to attempt the 10K distance. The walk course will circle the Tidal Basin, passing the Jefferson Memorial. The walk will begin immediately after the 10K runners clear the start line.
With 2,500 runners and walkers expected, the Veterans Day 10K is the largest autumn 10K in Washington, DC.
Age Divisions and Awards Ceremony
The awards ceremony will begin approximately 9:15 am on the stage. Merchandise and/or gift certificates will be awarded to the top ten male and female finishers, and the top three male and female finishers in the following divisions: 19 & under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 & above. Overall winners will be scored on clock time; age group winners on net time. Random prizes will be awarded; you must be present to win.
ChronoTrack Timing
The race will be timed with the innovative ChronoTrack D-tag timing system. Runners will be given a ChronoTrack D-tag, affixed to their bib. The tag must be removed from the bib and tied into runners' shoelaces. The transponder in the tag will record when each runner crosses the start line and the finish line, resulting in a net time for each runner in addition to the clock time. More ChronoTrack information: FAQs, instruction sheet (pdf), instructional video.
10K Course
The certified 10K course is flat and fast, good for a new PR. The course follows Ohio Drive around Hains Point and up the Channel side to the turnaround, and then reverses direction, with runners going through the parking lot on the return. Water stations will be located at approximately two and four miles.
Tidal Basin Walk
After the 10K runners clear the starting line, walkers line up for their jaunt around the Tidal Basin. The scenic 2.25 mile course will pass the Jefferson & FDR Memorials while circling the Tidal Basin.
T-Shirts
Long-sleeved, 100% cotton t-shirts with a colorful, patriotic design will be given to all registrants.
Refreshments
Food and hot beverages will be provided for all participants and volunteers. Water will be provided on course near the two and four-mile marks, and at the start/finish lines.
The Sergeant's Program
The Sergeant's Program will be there to warm up participants before the race (approximately 7:40 a.m.). When you finish the race, swing over and challenge yourself to the Sergeant's Push Up, Pull Up, and Sit Up contest. They even have a medicine ball throw contest. You do not want to miss this!
Bag Check
There will be a bag check area at the race site where participants may leave warm-up clothing. (Bring no valuables, please.) It will be located on the south side of the staging area (look toward the FDR Memorial from Ohio Drive).
Volunteers
We need volunteers to help conduct a successful event. If you are available to help at packet pickup on Friday, Saturday, or at the race on Sunday, please contact us via e-mail ([masked]) and specify when you can work. We will contact you in the week preceding the race with your assignment. Individuals and groups are welcome.
Commemorative Photographs
